Flights Tallinn TallinnFormerly under Soviet control, the Republic of Estonia has been an independent nation since 1991. Its largest and capital city, Tallinn, is a seaport on the north coast of the country, bordering the Gulf of Finland. Ever since it regained its independence, travel to Tallinn has continuously improved to the point where it is now easy to travel to this previously remote outpost. The two main tourist attractions in Tallinn are Lower Town and Toompea, which are two “old towns”. The latter contains Toompea Castle, which is the location where the Estonian Parliament is based, and which also has other governmental offices. Another castle in the district, Lindanise, is a wooden castle supposedly built around the 10th or 11th century, and was most likely one of the first populated places of the city. Lower Town is a well-preserved old town, and after a long downward trend, it is currently undergoing rehabilitation. Two towers, “Fat Margaret” and “Kiek in de Kok”, are interesting tourist stops in this neighborhood, as is the St. Olaf church tower, and the Town Hall square. Another district, Pirita, is on the coast of the Gulf of Finland. It has a marina which was constructed for the 1980 Olympics in Moscow, back when the country was under Soviet control. Tourists can hire boat captains to take them out on the Pirita River, and they can also visit the Botonic Gardens, which are around 2 kilometers inland. To get to Estonia, the cheapest flights to Tallinn are definitely those that originate in Scandinavian countries, as their close proximity make flying to this city a snap. In fact, many flights to Tallinn from cities in Western Europe are routed through Helsinki, Finland first, as that is the closest major city to the Estonian capital, just across the Gulf of Finland. Discount flights to Tallinn can be found from other locations as well; however, a lack of tourism demand to this city may make finding such a flight difficult. So for a tourism experience completely unlike anything you’ve ever experienced, visit the isolated city of Tallinn, Estonia. You probably won’t encounter many tourists during your sightseeing tours, but if that’s what you’re looking for, then Tallinn is just the ticket.
